The Advancement Angle: So...What Are You Doing This Fall?

As advancement professionals grapple with back to work plans, CASE moves ahead with virtual programming for community colleges

By Marc Westenburg

“What are you doing this summer?”

That was the tagline for a summer enrollment campaign at a college where I worked years ago—all built around a common question students ask each other at the close of the academic year. This summer reminded me of that campaign, but with advancement professionals in place of students, all asking each other:

“What are you doing this fall?”

Such a simple question belies two complex scenarios: internal staff work policies and external event planning.

CASE has a lot in common with educational advancement shops as we also wrestle with finding our own solutions to both of those challenges. On the internal side, we continue to navigate the interesting maze of remote vs. in-person work as we slide through summer into fall and look beyond to 2022. As for external events, all fall 2021 community college programs will be held online:

  • Federal Funding Task Force, September 27-October 21 and October 25-27
  • Seminar Series for Community College Advancement, November 2, 4, 10
  • Seminar Series for Community College Grant Professionals, November 10, 16, 18

Be they in person or online, however, one thing remains consistent: These programs would be impossible without the heroic efforts of volunteer leaders. As such, it is my pleasure to announce the volunteer leadership teams for each of these programs:
